Our Team

Helen - Manager and Forest School Leader – BA Hons.

I became involved with West End Playgroup in 2002 following the birth of my three children, who all attended the playgroup.  I joined the staff team in 2006 as my youngest child entered reception at school.  I really enjoy my work at West End Playgroup and the challenges of running the business side of the charity in contrast to caring for and educating the children there.  My qualifications include an HNC in business and finance, a foundation degree in Early Years Management and a BA Hons degree in Early Years Teaching as well as a forest school leader.  When I am not working, I love to walk my two little dogs in the woods at Oxshott. I enjoy going to the theatre when I get the chance and I also love sailing.

Julie - Deputy and Safeguarding Lead - NNEB

I qualified as a nursery nurse (NNEB) in 1974, previously working in nurseries in Leyton, Kingston and Twickenham.

Following the birth of my sons and before joining West End in 1999 I was a child minder. Besides looking after children of working parents I also had children placed with me for short periods by Social Services.

I have two grown up sons David and Harry who both work with children but within a 'sporting' role. They have also worked at one time with us at playgroup. Apart from my love of children (and my cats!) my big passion is Cross Stitch. A rather sedentary hobby but one I get great satisfaction from particularly when finishing a complicated pattern.

Tessa – SENCO – CASHE Diploma Level 3

I joined playgroup in September 2000 after having worked as a childminder for 10 years. I have a diploma in pre school practice with an emphasis in special educational needs. .  I have 3 grown up children and a very elderly cat called Lil.   In June 2017 I became a licenced lay minister in the Church of England and I run a monthly messy church session for school age children as well as a monthly club for seniors.  In my spare time I am working towards a degree in Theology, Ministry and Mission and I love to spend a relaxing weekend at my cottage in Rye.

Jo – Forest School Leader – BA Hons.

I have worked for the playgroup since 2012 and have a BA hons in Early Years Care and Learning and I have just completed my forest school leader qualification.  I have three teenage girls and two dogs who all keep me pretty busy.  When not working I like to exercise and I run a lot.  I recently ran a half marathon and finished so fast my family didn’t have time to get to the finish line!  I also make a mean lemon drizzle cake which goes down well at staff meetings.

Aleya – BA Hons Early Years Childhood Studies

I have been working at West End Playgroup since 2013 and I have a BA Hons degree in Early Years Childhood Studies. I take a particular role within the setting to help support children’s fine and gross motor skills. I encourage this through children’s play and mark making. I divide myself between West End at Rowan Preparatory School school, and at present I work in year one as a LSA.  I have also set up two after school prep clubs at the school.  I have three grown up children, and one gorgeous grandchild. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, socialising and Pilates!

Jess - CACHE Level 3 Diploma

I have been working for playgroup since 2013, firstly as a volunteer mum while my son attended and then subsequently as an employee. I have a CACHE level 3 Diploma in children and young people’s workforce.  As a busy mum of two young children I don’t really get time for hobbies but I do spend a lot of time going on walks, taking the children out, fitting in exercise and generally spending time with my family. I previously studied Performing Arts for three years and gained a BTEC National Diploma. I enjoy being creative with arts and crafts and like to draw, I also have a diploma in Reflexology and Indian Head Massage!

Holly – Diploma Level 3

I started working for West End Playgroup in 2013 and I have a level 3 Diploma in childcare. Previously I was nanny to a child who attended the playgroup and then following this I worked in a local school before coming back to playgroup to join the team.  I have two teenage children, two cats and two tortoises and they all keep me quite busy.  I take great pride in keeping my house spick and span while listening to music.  In my spare time I like to bake, I am also a keen dressmaker and I love to read when I get the chance.

Sam - Level 3 Diploma for Children and Young People’s Workforce

I  joined the team in September 2013.  I have four children one of whom attended West End Playgroup.  I completed my Level 3 Diploma for Children and Young People’s Workforce in June 2016.  I enjoy all aspects of my work, particularly my role as key person.  In my spare time I love to walk with my Labradoodle called Snowy.

Shilpa - NVQ3 Childcare

I started at west end playgroup in 2013 and have been working in childcare since 1999.  I have an NVQ3 in childcare.   I have two grown up children, a son and a daughter who are both now at work.  In my spare time I like to use fabrics and I make curtains, cushions and upholster furniture and I also love to crochet and knit.  I am interested in reflexology and often I am on hand to give advice at playgroup should someone have a headache!
